Available Programs
All programs require a commitment of weekly visits (some exceptions may be considered). All programs require Therapy Dogs, Inc. membership.
Below is a list of some of our more active programs. We are always looking to add new facilities throughout Broward County. We will be more than happy to help you join any of these, or assist you in finding a place closer to your home:
Vitas Hospice 'Paw Pals' of Broward County, serving all of Broward County
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration and Vitas Hospice volunteer orientation.
Hours available: You can set your own hours according to what is convenient for you. There are many facilities throughout Broward County to choose from, or you may choose to visit patients in their homes.
Memorial Hospital Regional and Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital, 3501 Johnson Street, Hollywood
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration, Memorial Healthcare System volunteer orientation, background check provided by MHS, purchase of volunteer jacket and joining the hospital's auxiliary. Dogs MUST love children.
Hours available: Morning or afternoon visits.
Memorial Hospital Pembroke, 7800 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration, Memorial Healthcare System volunteer orientation, background check provided by MHS and purchase of volunteer jacket from the hospital.
Hours available: Flexible visiting hours.
Memorial Hospital West, 703 North Flamingo Road. Pembroke Pines
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration, Memorial Healthcare System volunteer orientation, background check provided by MHS and purchase of volunteer jacket from the hospital. Dogs must like children.
Hours available: The hospital has a very open schedule, you can choose to visit mornings, afternoons or evenings during the week, or weekends.
Memorial Manor, 777 S. Douglas Road, Pembroke Pines
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration
Hours available: We visit this facility on Wednesdays at 2 PM. Weekend visits occasionally available. We have been visiting the Manor since 1991.
Memorial Hospital Miramar, 1901 Southwest 172nd Avenue, Miramar
We are now testing a limited number of teams for this beautiful facility.
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration, Memorial Healthcare System volunteer orientation and purchase of volunteer jacket from the hospital.
Hours available: Flexible visiting hours. We started this program March 17, 2005.
Broward County Public Schools
***This program was a finalist for the 2006 Partnership of the Year Award***
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration, Canine Good Citizen test, dogs must love children. You will also be required to fill out a Broward School District volunteer application and be approved.
Hours available: Visits will be on weekdays between 9:00 am - Noon, in one hour sessions. We will try to place your team in an elementary school within your home area when possible. This program requires a commitment of weekly or bi-monthly visits throughout the school year. We started our visits in October of 2004.
Azalea Gardens, 1701 Mayo Street, Hollywood
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration
Hours available: Flexible visiting hours.
Coolidge Palms, 2057 Coolidge Street, Hollywood
Requirements: Therapy Dogs, Inc. registration
Hours available: Flexible visiting hours.
We are always looking for new therapy teams, and have many openings for volunteer teams, especially for Vitas Hospice and all Memorial Hospitals in Broward County.
